The Scraps: Broken Dial Weekly Recap

Broken Dial is the greatest thing since sliced Cookie Puss, we know. The awesome mix tapes, the insightful commentary, and the intelligent discussion and reviews, what is there not to like? If you love checking out the latest bands or want to know who you should be giving your hard earned money to, there is no better place to start than right here in The Scraps.

Monday

Kyle David Paul returns to form with his latest Let’s Rave On; Musical Judgments in the Springtime.

You want to hear one of the best albums of the last 5 years, let alone 2007? Check out Mando Diao – Ode to Ochrasy Review to hear what James V. Mitchell had to say.

Tuesday

Greg might have been jetting around the country the past month, but he was still here with his Tuesday Triple Play – Not Too Serious. For fans of Jonathan Richman, T. Rex and the Dead Milkmen, you need to see just this week’s mix.

Cash Kerouac, thank you for being a super radviewer (that’s “rad reviewer,” ya’ll) and getting this covered: Eastern Conference Champions – The Southhampton Collection EP Review. I like it!

Wednesday

Dustinland, ahoy! I actually said this same thing in the teaser, but after all of these months of featuring the comic here in Broken Dial, it was nice to have Glickster write about music: Dustinland

This week, Elk City, gets the plug in our Spotlight On series. Let us tell you why this NYC-based quartet deserves your attention!

SC100 is a “family snapshot” disguised as a record, but a phenomenal record at that. Secretly Canadian is a Bloomington, Indiana-based label known to release music created by talented and passionate artists. We love almost all of what they put out, so it was a real treat to be blessed with the opportunity to review where the label has been, and where they might be going.

Thursday

The Detroit Cobras’ latest release, Tied & True, is covering by yours truly. I like the act, but my number one complaint is the vocals feel like they were dropped on top of the rest of the session. They sound like they recorded in two different rooms with different acoustic properties. Otherwise, this is as fun a release as I have heard this year.

Beating the Drum is back and Greg has so much to talk about: Fair Use, DRM and Spyware. I love that he found a way to tie it all together, but Greg is a talented writer, so that is to be expected.

Holy crap, I have lost my damn mind! In this week’s Thursday Video Hook-Up, I made the executive decision to cover THREE artists this week. There is a live Björk performance, Richard Swift, and The Long Blondes. I am totally hooked on “Once And Never Again” by The Long Blondes, so I gave you the song to help you beat the addiction as well.

Friday

Outloud is back with another set of fantastic finds. Are you a rock enthusiast like Dan Berkman? If you are, you have to see the rare Stooges material he dug up: Live At The Fun House. Hell, anything with Hare Krishnas, I am totally all about!

Last but certainly not least, my mp3-ture SMS <3s BD: Vol. 2, features the songs and artists you need to hear. That’s why you get the mp3s, so go check that out ASAP!

Another week and even more phenomenal content, the likes of which you have come to expect from Broken Dial. Thanks for another great week everybody.

If you want to see what other albums we are digging, feel free to check our album reviews archive. Arigato!
