Tuned In – GM Jive

The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein, easily ranks as one of my all-time favorite books. Focused on a brutally selfless tree always willing to help a boy in need, the story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Perhaps in tribute, Chevy likewise tries to elicit such emotions in promoting its popular Malibu model. The poignant premise centers on a young girl lovingly raised by a crafty General Motors robot. While aging on the conveyer belt of life, the machine remains devoted through numerous milestones – crawling, walking, learning to bike, senior prom, and college graduation. And everything comes together at the end of the commercial, with the creation of a car custom-fit for her taste.

Equally infectious is the music employed, with Oren Lavie [Official Site, MySpace, Wiki] supplying his organ-infused track, “Her Morning Elegance.” Born and bred in Israel, the singer/songwriter/playwright moved to Berlin via New York, to record his debut LP. Three years in the making, The Opposite Side of the Sea was released worldwide in 2007 to rather modest critical acclaim. Indeed, iTunes featured the album in its Spotlight category [link]
