With spring on the proverbial doorstep, playing hooky from work/school to dive on an elaborate urban waterslide never sounded so welcome. Dodge presumably agrees and sympathizes with the plight of restlessness, bringing our imagination to life. In their current sales pitch for the Journey compact “crossover,” the company envisions a world of self-proclaimed automotive superiority, where spontaneity, sensibility, and (of course) fuel economy reign supreme. A world of high-octane stupidity set to the soundtrack of “Sun is Out” by Apples in Stereo.
Veterans of the early nineties underground, the innovative Denver outfit began an unassuming life as simply the Apples (a nod to Pink Floyd’s “Apples and Oranges”). However, constant personnel changes eventually led the band to tweak their moniker ever so slightly. The current lineup features one sole founding member, principle songwriter and creative hub Robert Schneider. “Sun is Out” was cherry-picked from their sixth studio album New Magnetic Wonder, released in 2007 via Simian Records; the label was founded by actor and perpetual hobbit, Elijah Wood.

Feeling saucy? Check out “Ron’s Slip ‘n Slide Extravaganza,” set to a montage of classic rock (Steppenwolf, CCR, and Pixies). Best idea ever, though I wouldn’t recommend trying it at home.
