LA-based instrumentalists Red Sparowes [Official Site, Myspace] will release a digital EP, Aphorisms, August 1 via Sargent House with a physical release slated for later this fall. In an interview with CMJ, drummer Dave Clifford explains many questions raised by the band’s often long, melodramatic titles.
CMJ: Why did you chose aphorisms as the “theme” of this EP?
Clifford: The song titles are related to a bigger concept tied to the next full album involving the human pursuit of creating meaning and context, the sciences and the necessity of “error.” The advancement of human history has been built upon scientific/cultural/philosophical revolutions where ideas considered correct one day become fallacious the next. Aphorisms often embody a willful sense of irony, while aiming to pithily prove what is considered a general truth and/or scientific principle. The title seemed a fitting prelude to the album’s concept.”
It all makes perfect sense now. Feel free to head over to CMJ to check out the rest of the interview [link] but either way, the first song from the EP, “We Left The Apes To Rot, But Find The Fang Still Grows Within,” is currently streaming on the band’s Myspace page.
