Watch Out for The Submarines

Holy sweet marbles, I love The Submarines [Official Site, Myspace]. When I first reviewed their last LP, Declare A New State! [Review], I had no idea how much joy that album would be bringing me for the next two plus years. Like the happiest-couple-on-Earth, my now-wife and I really blossomed as a team around the time that album came into our lives and hearing the story of their romance and how this album brought them back together, well, let’s just say it works like a charm, guys!

Ahem.

Their new album, Honeysuckle Weeks, is another dose of indie-pop goodness. I would love it more if I hadn’t had to listen to it all on their Myspace page (why weren’t we given this album to review?!?!?! Someone please remedy this!) and they are currently on the road for a few select shows in August with Aimee Mann, including a headlining stop at Mercury Lounge here in NYC.

Come inside for mp3s, stay for the tourdates…”after the jump”

The Submarines will join Aimee onstage for six east coast dates, and sneak in one headlining date at Mercury Lounge on July 26th.

  2. [...] When I think Bishop Allen [MySpace], I have to admit I usually don’t think dancing go-go girls, but after this video, I might. The latest video from Grrr…, “True or False”, features the lead vocals of Darbie Nowatka Rice and if the black and white clip doesn’t make you think of a kinder and gentler time (ironically during the Cold War), then you have either no soul or no taste of history. I really do like the contrast of Darbie’s voice to Justin’s but I am also partial to other husband-wife combos (see: The Submarines). [...]
