Having already amassed thousands of rabid fans via MySpace and her unyielding DIY aesthetic, Gregory and the Hawk [Official Site, Myspace], the nom de plume of Meredith Godreau, will take to the road next month to perform her infectious and understated folky pop songs. The Brooklyn-based beauty, who has been playing both solo and with a revolving cast of musicians since 2003, is touring in support of Moenie and Kitchi, her FatCat Records debut released October 7.

“Grey Weather” [mp3]
With a voice that lifts and falls like a feather in the breeze as the main centerpiece of these hook-laden songs, Godreau has crafted her most mature and rich album to date, one filled with layers of ornate instrumentation and dynamic songwriting. Moenie and Kitchi follows her self-released LP and EP, which have combined track sales of more than 40,000 as a result of her extensive touring throughout the East Coast and devoted internet following.
Her autumnal music has begun to resonate outside the U.S., stretching far across the pond to great acclaim. The notoriously critical NME stamped the album with an 8 out of 10, exclaiming: “‘Grey Weather’ and ‘Ghost,’ have the lushness of Bryter Layter-era Nick Drake and are just as spellbinding… beautiful, mysterious music.”
Armed with a small cast and crew, including director Chell Stephen, Gregory and the Hawk recently snuck into nearby Gillette, N.J. to shoot the video for standout track “Voice Like a Bell.” With the first shot getting off at 6 a.m. to catch the sunrise and early magic hour light, the video, filled with colorful filters and effects, succinctly captures the beauty of the song.
