“The electronic sounds of Mobius Band are largely the result of Noam Schatz’s obsession with circuit-bent keyboards.” – MAGNET
Mobius Band [Official, Myspace] Noam Schatz (aka 3rdness) is happy to announce the free digital release of his debut EP Red Chanterelles via mobiusband.com on Wednesday, October 22nd.
Building upon techniques featured on Mobius Band’s Heaven, Noam says, “Like coming upon a surprise blush of bright red chanterelles in the woods around western Massachusetts, I love finding spontaneous and unexpected sounds.”

At a time when anyone with a laptop has a wealth of pre-fab electronic noises at their disposal, Noam begins his sonic research by deliberately short-circuiting the innards of toy keyboards, turning them into bizarre machines capable of incredibly sophisticated and impossible-to-duplicate sounds. On Red Chanterelles, he adds synths and samples to create melodic environmental textures meant to envelope the listener.
“Friends Like These” [mp3] (from Heaven)
“The Loving Sounds of Static” [mp3] (from The Loving Sounds of Static)
“You’ll surely hear the simple patterns that I draw on from early electronic music and Krautrock” Noam says, “but I’m sure you can also hear unexpected twists – the wash of a river, a snippet from a horror film, a soul song – nuances that create depth and warrant a repeat listen.”
