Writer Brings “Blood Drops”

Writer [Official Site, Myspace], the San Diego-based act who self-released their latest album, Blood Drops, in August, are really onto something here (and by that, I don’t mean emailing me a Happy Belated Birthday, but that was nice as well). Despite the fact that I was not allowed to see any shows on my honeymoon on the West Coast, I still tried to convince the wife to go see them and failed, but hey, I tried.

Now, in an effort to make it up to them, I am going to let the world hear how damn awesome they are. Cool?

“In a small corner of San Diego, Writer drives melodies through the air sharp as nails; while plugged into buzzing amps in a space cluttered with a dozen instruments and tangled cords. Beneath wooden rafters and a blanket of sound, an unpolished throat sings gritty, spit-shined, and endearingly clumsy where the sadness of its voice is somehow tender. It is a voice reaching for something familiar, inspired by physical experience, influential friends, loss, and objects that leave a residue of longing.

Writer casts songs in wax, plaster, bronze–whatever is permanent, vanishing, or translucent as a memory.

Six months after releasing Don’t Wake the Sun (a two song 7in. vinyl), Writer plans the release of Blood Drops on August 29, 2008. This seven song album sorts through loud aggressive drum beats (James Ralph), stimulating guitar melodies (Eli Bowser), and the austere singing and guitar playing (Andy Ralph) which lead you to find the genuine songwriting that Writer has evoked in their heads and through these instruments.”
