A Year Of The Ben Gibbard/Zooey Deschanel/Matt Ward Love Triangle (As We See It)

SheandHimandHim

Famed actor/singer Zooey Deschanel (well, almost famous) announced her engagement to rock star Ben Gibbard (well, semi-star….and it’s not really rock, more like “chunky glasses pussy pop”) on Monday. Ben of course is (semi) famous for his work in Death Cab For Cutie and The Postal Service. Zooey is half of the sorta-popular alt-country pop She & Him, her duo with Matt Ward (aka M. Ward).

So what comes next for this suddenly awkward menage a trois of semi-famous pop music? Well, we’re glad you asked. We here at Radio Exile have all the answers.

December 2008
Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel announce their engagement.

January 2009
Ben Gibbard joins She & Him.

February 2009
She & Him is renamed She & Him & Him.

March 2009
Matt Ward joins The Postal Service.

April 2009
The Postal Service renamed The Postal Service & Him.

May 2009
She & Him & Him re-record their cover of Smokey Robinson’s “You Really Go A Hold On Me” as a duet. Ward’s sole contribution to the song is a sobbing sound on the backing track. Loudly.

June 2009
She & Him & Him release a follow up to “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here” entitled “Why Don’t You Get Out Of Here, Matt”.

July 2009
“I Will Possess Your Heart” is covered on a split 7″ by Matt Ward and released as “I Will Possess your Heart, Zooey”. The B-side is Ben Gibbard’s solo cover of “Thriller”, the Michael Jackson hit.

End-of-July 2009
Michael Jackson explodes from some as-yet-unnamed disease by which a mutually symbiotic relationship goes horribly awry when one party begins to “collaborate” with another. Scientists name it “Serves You Right, Matt Ward”-itosis.

August 2009
Zooey places a restraining order on Matt Ward.

September 2009
She & Him & Him change their name to I’m Having Sex With Zooey, Matt.

October 2009
Matt Ward starts wearing chunky glasses.

November 2009
The Postal Service & Him releases their sophomore album, entitled “(I) Give Up”. The album features reworked versions Postal Service songs such as “Matt Ward Sleeps Alone Tonight” and “Matt Ward Will Jump From Such Great Heights”.

December 2009
Matt Ward is found dead, having tragically choked on his own chunky glasses.

So it Goes. Good luck to the future couple.

  11. Haha!!! Oh man, this was funny. M. Ward is probably sobbing uncontrollably and holding up a boombox playing “Chinese Translation” standing under Zooeys window.
