With a new album coming out on June 23rd (Letter from New Virginia), Brooklyn’s own Donny Hue and the Colors [MySpace] will soon be up to their eyeballs in adoring fans. Fighting off all the admirers will make for a very busy summer, indeed. To celebrate the release, and drum up some new fans (which they deserve, fo sho!), the band have been releasing songs on a weekly basis up through the release date.
The first three tracks are shiny folk, country-type goodness – “Steps,” “Oh Lord” and “Goodbye Pleasant City” are three tracks that we’re more than happy to share with you all and that we hope you’ll end up digging as much as we do.

“Recorded in an old barn in the middle of Luray, VA, Letter from New Virginia paints a majestic landscape of harmonica laced hoe down folk. Once again, the Colors came from all over the eastern seaboard and west coast to put together the follow up to 2007’s Donny Hue and the Colors debut Folkmote. Burleigh Seaver (former member of OK GO) brought in his recording gear and captured all of the harmonies of the album at once with mixing and mastering done back in DC.
The album is a true gem featuring the whimsical nature of the band in a whole new light, from the dark psych folk in “Lady Tomcat and the Turning Trees” to the Shins like beauty of “That Whistling in my Ears” the band has further developed their sound which has been described as “the closest to magical (sur)realism this city has to offer… a layered, wonderfully complex sound that is two parts symphonic chamber pop, one part folkloric with a sprinkling of nursery rhymes in it.” (BYT).
