Jeff Mangum and Other Cool Peeps Record Chris Knox Tribute

chrisknoxhearts

He’s not dead yet but Chris Knox is getting the dead legend treatment! Recovering from a stroke in his home country of New Zealand, the lo-fi pioneer (inventor?) is at the receiving end of a covers album! People slated to add a song include David Kilgour, The Mint Chicks, Lou Barlow, Graeme Downs, Guided By Voices, The Mountain Goats, Jay Clarkson, Martin Phillips, Jay Reatard, Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, Shane Carter, Pumice, Alec Bathgate, Will Oldham, Bill Callahan, and most excitingly Jeff Mangum. This will technically be the first song Jeff has released since 1998 (not counting his early ’00′s album of field recordings and a recent soundtrack he compiled for his wife). I, as Jeff Mangum fanboy #1, am excited about this. Jeff’s last official show was in New Zealand in 2001 at the request of (and with) Chris Knox.

Chris is fantastic in his own right, both solo and with the Tall Dwarfs. This should be a fantastic album. More details when they’re available.
