Brooklyn’s The Antlers [MySpace] were on our radar shortly before their debut LP dropped and now that they’ve gotten “big enough to brag about”, we’re equal parts proud for them and just plain glad to really see and hear such strong reactions from our friends around the blogosphere. The band is currently touring with Passion Pit currently, but fret not, they are coming back to NYC for CMJ (as they were among the first artists announced for the yearly event) and Hospice is in serious contention for “Album of the Year” both here (although Tom insists RAA’s Hometowns deserves the honor) and at other prominent sites like NPR or Paste.
Watch the video off one of 2009′s brightest revelations “after the jump”
“The clip for “Two,” directed by Ethan Segal and Albert Thrower, is the visually arresting result of hours of hard work – a combination of stop motion paper cut-out animation, vector graphics, and computer animation in Adobe Aftereffects. Bolstered by impressive technique, and a brilliant moment of release, the video saw its world premiere on Pitchfork.tv earlier this week, mere days before the trio of Peter Silberman, Michael Lerner and Darby Cici found themselves among the first artists announced for the annual indie music rampage CMJ Music Marathon in New York City.”

I definitely agree it’s in contention for AOY. Amazing record. Great band.
[...] Frenchkiss darlings The Antlers released a second music video from their 2009 breakout album Hospice on Friday. The video is for one of the album’s biggest track, “Bear,” shot in the bleak and snowy forest of… um… Bear Mountain, features beautiful cinematography and fantastical imagery, offering a perfect visual complement to the song’s moving lyrics. Rife with metaphors, despite the video’s initial dreariness, “Bear” maintains some of the same themes of hope that we saw in the bands’ video for “Two.” [...]
