The Postelles and Xylos performed at the Taste of Williamsburg after-party at Brooklyn Bowl on Sunday which was a benefit to help build the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center. The show was, overall, really good with the usual highs and energetic bits you’d expect from each act.
Xylos, with their playful melodies and great three part harmonies are pretty much a must-see live band. They’re playing Bowery Ballroom on May 22nd, a cancer benefit on June 5th (Brentapalooza.net) and will be releasing a new LP later this summer. The lead single from which was one of which will include one of their very best songs, “Not Enough”. Xylos closed things out with a cover of Debbie Gibson’s “Only In My Dreams” to an enthusiastic crowd.
As for The Postelles; they just got back from touring in the UK and are performing at the Bowery Ballroom on July 28th in celebration of their 3rd record release. Before that, they’ll be playing Bonnaroo Jun 10th and 12th.
If you’ve never heard The Postelles, consider them a mix of Elvis Costello, Lou Reed and the Strokes. Before they start their gig, lead singer Daniel Balk apologizes to the crowd for “sounding like shit” in advance as he’s having issues with his voice and has been drinking hot water with honey all day. The truth is, that when he’s singing, he sounds fine. It’s only when he’s chatting up the crowd that it’s apparent. The rest of the band was in fine form: David Dargahi on Lead Guitar, John Speyer on Bass & Billy Cadden on Drums really seem to have a fun time on stage and it’s contagious, just as they were when we caught them on the 3rd stage at All Points West last year. They played “White Night” from their latest EP as well as their best known song “Hey Little Sister”.
