Band of Horses Takes Us Behind the Scenes of “Infinite Arms”

“It took nearly 2 years, virtual bankruptcy, five states and a dead falcon to get there, but Infinite Arms is the product of a band doing things on their own terms and finally learning to enjoy the results,” (taken from the Infinite Arms Biography.)

Band of Horses new album, Infinite Arms, is out May 18th on Brown Records/Fat Possum/Columbia. Pre-order the album and/or Deluxe version at www.bandofhorses.com.

While I Eat My Toast Mixtape #2

Week two is already up and you just got into work? I must be planning ahead. This week, there’s a mix of stuff in here that was given to me by PR contacts, material direct from the band’s themselves and some stuff that was buzzing around on other blogs that I was super stoked to find. Like I said last week (and will probably say every week), I usually bop to this great stuff every morning while I walk to the train with a piece of toast in my hand, so I have appropriately named this piece, While I Eat My Toast.

In this week’s mixtape: Trentemøller, M.I.A, National Pigeon Unity, Kurt Vile, Peter Wolf Crier, Elephant Stone, Walking Sleep, and Tiger! Shit! Tiger! Tiger!

While I Eat My Toast Mixtape #1

We’ve been doing a good job of keeping you informed of the stuff we’ve liked lately, but we haven’t been putting out the stuff that I’ve heard but haven’t gotten a chance to talk about yet. So, since I usually bop to this great stuff every morning while I walk to the train with a piece of toast in my hand, I have named this piece, While I Eat My Toast. I just thought that “Damn, I Don’t Want to Go Back to Work, Why Weren’t My Parents Really Wealthy?” was super childish for a 31 year old. Every Monday, Radio Exile will post a few of the songs and demos that are getting us through our relaxing weekends and helping us forget the Hell that is heading back into work on Monday. Yuck.

In this week’s mixtape: The National, Crystal Castles, Two Door Cinema Club, Coconut Records, The Honey Pies, Young Adults, Household Names, and Indian Jewelry.

Make Love, Not War – The (Subjective) Bedroom Mixtape

MLNWAR900

Start off the new year with a bang … literally! And why not – there’s nothing else to do in these frigid temps. Your best bet is to burrow under a down comforter with something cute and snuggly and not your childhood stuffed animal. Sure, you could hit the gym – that’s one way to combat the doughy advances on your midsection – but the gym can’t make out with you; this methodology is a welcomed alternative for calorie burning.

(Please note: Radio Exile does not take responsibility for any buns that may manifest in any ovens, as a result of promoting this mix).

The sky continuously throwing down snow is Mother Nature’s way of practically begging you to get laid. Stop making her job more difficult. What sounds better: trudging through slushy streets and icy wind blasts en route to the bar (where you’ll have wet feet and a perpetual sniff the entire time), or reenacting spicy Calvin Klein ads to a hot soundtrack after watching a little Family Guy?

The latter. Obviously.

These songs should get your proverbial juices flowing. Mix, match and discard at will – there isn’t any particular order to them. Care has also been taken to include a variety of tempos to please differing, em, aesthetic preferences. Please leave additional tunes in the comments section, for future testing in the Radio Exile labs.

And remember kids, when these beats are a-rockin’, don’t come a-knockin’. …read full article…

Go Stuff Yourself – The Thanksgiving Mixtape

TurkeyDayMixtape

Everyone seems to talk to about Thanksgiving as if it is their favorite holiday. It makes sense: when it all boils down, no one loves gluttony more than an American. We can justify spending money on food (over presents), knowing that we will partake in shoveling these tasty purchases through our personal pie holes. More mashed potatoes, please!

I’m cool with it. Especially when I know that the feed fest I’m attending is forty-five people deep. Forty-five people means a lot of conversations (“Have you put on weight?” “When are you going to pop one out?” and my personal favorite, “How’s work?”), but it also means a lot of desserts. It’s a trade off (and yes, I still sneak cookies before dinner and, yes, I would do that at a stranger’s Thanksgiving).

For my festivities, I am also lucky enough to only have a forty-five minute drive to the very town that brought you Thanksgiving. Since it’s at my in-laws house every year, I have a lot of leverage in the the car ride soundtrack. “Alice’s Restaurant” will obviously be played at noon, in typical Thanksgiving day fashion, but after that, I plan on listening to the below.

Anamanaguchi Interview: Green men, Weezer, and how Bear Hands are assholes

l_1bce75fd5afcb4ff58fc3780255a1083.jpg

Anamanaguchi [Official Site, MySpace] is perhaps the rarest thing today in indie music: they are original. And not the “we are experimental because we make horribly grating noises that nobody else has ever heard before” kind of original. No, Anamanaguchi are the kick ass sort of original. 8-bit arena rock power pop original. Combine Weezer with an old Nintendo and some Red Bull sort of kick ass.

The band was awesome enough to sit down with Radio Exile at Vassar College a short while back. What transpired was entertaining to say the least. Among other things, we talk about aliens who come to their shows, the Hudson Valley, and how Bear Hands are a bunch of assholes for backing into their car 15 minutes earlier.

Read on. …read full article…
