Denver lo-fi pop duo Tennis have gotten a lot of press recently after the release of their 7” on Underwater Peoples. I succumbed to the pressure from friends to check out their tunes [link] and I couldn’t help but to draw comparisons to Beach House, She & Him, and Wild Nothing who put out three of my favorite records of the year, so I naturally got excited when I heard they were playing Glasslands Gallery in southside Williamsburg. …read full article…

“The man” keeping you down this dreary, rainy (at least in NYC) Monday morning. Here’s a great “lyric video” for Cee Lo’s wonderfully infectious “F*ck You” for all of you to sink your teeth into. Watch out, though, the lyrics are pretty NSFW, so don’t listen unless you are rock some rad headphones or something and DON’T read along. If it doesn’t at least make you chuckle, you have no soul.*
(just kidding, I am a ginger and gingers seem to be missing theirs, so I am mad about it)

Brand new clip for Antony and the Johnsons‘ “Thank You For Your Love” which features some really, really old Super 8 footage from Antony’s first months (years maybe?) here in NYC and it’s really quite a moving piece. The tune is the title track on a forthcoming EP that is being released in the UK and Europe by Rough Trade on August 23rd and on August 24th in North America by Secretly Canadian.

The White Panda are a mash-up/remix duo (Tom Evans (aka Procrast) and Dan Griffith (aka DJ Griffi)) based out of Chicago and the city of Angels. The duo released their debut album, entitled Versus, on December 28, 2009 and just released their latest album Rematch, on July 2nd, 2010. I want them to remix my office — take the humdrum noise of, well, nothing, and replace it with a bit o’ nothing sprinkled with more rad beats.
That’s just what I think, anyway.

As part of my new commitment to being open about my taste in music throughout my teens and early twenties, I’ve decided to mine for my fave tunes from my youth, as you will and l present a video from a song that I loved then and still sorta love now. Today’s presentation is the wonderfully awesome “Thunder Kiss ’65″ from White Zombie‘s La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1.
Awww, 1992, where have you gone?

The image up above is from ANOTHER one-take video (huge trend, eh?) for the first single, “Collapsing Cities,” from Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly‘s upcoming self-titled album. Grab it (on Cooking Vinyl) on 13th September 2010.

Since their album hit our desks a month ago, Jagjaguwar’s Gayngs has been blowing our mind. The soft, indie rock has found a solid home into our music rotations (and definitely deserves one in yours as well. The video here is for “The Gaudy Side of Town,” a personal fave, that Pitchfork.tv had on display (no, I am not in love with P4K!).
You should watch and listen – if you ever wished for an 80s renaissance or harbor a crush on Phil Collins but wish he was more…more INDIE, Relayted is the epitome of “cool”.

LA-based duo, The Polyamorous Affair are gearing up for the release of their latest album, Strange Bedfellows. To celebrate, they’re just handing out mp3s, yo. The first, “Hypnotized,” finds the electro-poppers bending African drums and synth into a bizarre, refreshing and kick-effing-ass dreamscape (I won’t lie, I just wanted to say “dreamscape” today).

While in Norway several years back, we saw a promising young artist by the name of Moddi. It turns out, he remembered us writing about him and reached out a few months back (and even has a quote from our show review at by:Larm ’08 on his press page!). In that time, we’ve been really enjoying his debut, Floriography (out now in UK/Europe on Impeller) so I want to take a moment to share this clip with you and see if I can’t make you guys fans too.

Here’s the rad vid for “Black Sheep” by our friends in Suckers. Their album, Wild Smile, is available now on Frenchkiss Records.

Illinois-makers (ha!) Elsinore have put together an immaculate track here with the tune “Yes Yes Yes” (which you can grab in a minute, bear with us). With the announcement that the Yes Yes Yes full length will be dropping August 10th, we’re salivating. Or, we’re at least very happy. The band are a blast of fresh air, not a breath; knocking the wind from our lungs with fun, energetic melodies and tunes of “the simplistic bliss of life in the Midwest”.

Even a “snobby, indie dork” (*my wife’s words, not mine) like myself can get into some catchy indie-pop now and again. Hell, since The Long Blondes split, I have really felt the void in the “fun, danceable rock” category. Tyler, Texas-based Moving Castles borrow liberally from the Beach Boys and while maintaining a sound that’s refreshingly their own and distinct. Right now, the band are releasing songs for free as they record them throughout the first half of 2010 and right nowT, the first Moving Castle EP is available for free at their official website at http://www.movingcastles.com.

One of my all-time favorite bands, Murder by Death, just released a new video for their song “White Noise”. The video for was created by the Australian animator/design team of MaricorMaricar (Architecture in Helsinki, The Living End) and is “based on a treatment by the band’s cellist, Sarah Balliet, and explores the “ominous undercurrent” of the song”.
I can’t express more eloquently how much I love the new album, Good Morning, Magpie, so I will let the clip and mp3s speak for themselves.

Pitchfork digs them, so I guess we should too, right? Any way you slice it, this week’s guest on Dirty Laundry is none other than Fang Island who are currently on tour for their self-titled debut. In this episode, the band sit and dish with Olivia about “Andrew W.K., their Keanu Reeves connection and NBA Jam.”
Interesting combo, no?

Ready for more electro-pop today? As it turns out, Wave Machines, Liverpool’s hidden gem, just produced a brand new album – Wave If You’re Really There. The video is for “Keep The Lights On,” which I would find incredibly sexy (there are lots of dancing ladies) if it weren’t for the simulated death and eerie crime scene. Frankly, I am puzzled as to how I feel about it: my heart says “yes” but my head says “creepy, Shawn. Knock it the ‘eff’ off.
Great song, though.
