Alright y’all, I’m back writing for Radio Exile and I’m back inventing new columns that I will likely never follow up on.
I want to introduce you all to a band that I’m obsessed with. It’s name is Oberhofer [MySpace] and it’s the brainchild/bedroom recordings of one Brad Oberhofer, a teenager from Tacoma, WA who is currently living in New York. I met Brad through work, where he gave me a CD-R with his demo tape. Since I started to work in the music industry, I’ve had a lot of people give me, or try to give me, their music. At best they’re okay. At worst…..well, lets not go there. Oberhofer’s demo was different. At worst is was fucking awesome and at best….well, lets just say that CD-R made my Top 10 Albums of 2009 list.

The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival announced the 2010 line-up this year and it isn’t too bad. Granted, anything short of a Smiths reunion is underwhelming to the apathetic masses, but overall, this youth-and-indie focused oasis in Indio looks as strong as in recent years. After a few years of “established” headliners, the show will feature headline performances from younger acts including Gorillaz, Muse, Jay-Z, Thom Yorke, MGMT, Hot Chip, Spoon, Vampire Weekend and LCD Soundsystem at the very top of the bill for the three-day concert that begins April 16 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio.
This year, while there will be “nostalgia acts”, among them Woodstock icon Sly and the Family Stone, 1980s alt-rock outfit Echo and the Bunnymen and the 80s college-rock outfit Pavement, they will not be leading the bill like Paul McCartney, Prince and Roger Waters have in recent editions of the show.

Start off the new year with a bang … literally! And why not – there’s nothing else to do in these frigid temps. Your best bet is to burrow under a down comforter with something cute and snuggly and not your childhood stuffed animal. Sure, you could hit the gym – that’s one way to combat the doughy advances on your midsection – but the gym can’t make out with you; this methodology is a welcomed alternative for calorie burning.
(Please note: Radio Exile does not take responsibility for any buns that may manifest in any ovens, as a result of promoting this mix).
The sky continuously throwing down snow is Mother Nature’s way of practically begging you to get laid. Stop making her job more difficult. What sounds better: trudging through slushy streets and icy wind blasts en route to the bar (where you’ll have wet feet and a perpetual sniff the entire time), or reenacting spicy Calvin Klein ads to a hot soundtrack after watching a little Family Guy?
The latter. Obviously.
These songs should get your proverbial juices flowing. Mix, match and discard at will – there isn’t any particular order to them. Care has also been taken to include a variety of tempos to please differing, em, aesthetic preferences. Please leave additional tunes in the comments section, for future testing in the Radio Exile labs.
And remember kids, when these beats are a-rockin’, don’t come a-knockin’. …read full article…

We’ve been listening to The Machines EP from Brooklyn’s Savoir Adore [Official] the better part of this week and we’d be completely remiss if we forgot to get a mention in before we headed out for the weekend. The band, comprised of Deidre Muro and Paul Hammer, blew so many of we weepy critics away in 2008 with The Adventures of Mr. Pumpernickel and the Girl with the Animals in her Throat, and tonight is their big ol’ album “release party” at Cameo in BK. If you’re in the neighborhood (or even if you’re only remotely connected to the nabe and want to get out to see another really great NYC band) you should head out and peep their set in support of In the Wooded Forest, the band’s debut on Cantora Records (also home to MGMT), and it comes hot on the heels of the previously mentioned 3 song EP that dropped back in May.
The $10 entry gets you a copy of the full length and you can get three of the album’s songs for free via their website or sample a track “after the jump” …read full article…

Yesterday, I promised a “Side B” to Radio Exile’s mp3 Mixtape and here it is, featuring:
Kanye West, Biffy Clyro, Motel Motel, Passion Pit, F@cked Up, Conor Oberst, The Kooks, Danielson and High Places.
This is a tight little mix of all the stuff I started listening to just last week and haven’t gotten a chance to say “Hey folks, you need to check this stuff out,” and some other stuff that hit my radar when I was using the internet for recreation earlier this week while sick. Fun times.

So, I was just updating Twitter [link] when it dawned on me that the world is surely coming to an end this year. See, I got married before the age of 30 and as a result, the Earth will probably burst into flames just after midnight on October 13th.
That being said, whoever thought that a Rock ‘N Roll themed amusement park was a good idea, that person should go straight to Hell (and who designs the park in “under two hours” at a Kinko’s anyway?) [New York Times] …read full article…
